“The route has potential for a World Championship”, Austria’s World Tour leader Patrick Konrad found the “ASVÖ King of the Lake”, the Europe-wide unique bike time trial around the Attersee, to be royal last Saturday. The fact that the Tour stage winner also completed the fastest lap in 57:04.19 minutes was one of many highlights at the 12th edition.
In contrast to previous years, the weather didn’t play along, but none of the more than 1,400 participants took the joy of chasing the times over the 47.2 kilometers. Schörflinger local hero Alexander Lemp crowned himself the men’s king in 59:29.88, leaving Race Across America Champion Christoph Strasser behind. For the women, Gabriela Thanner, a former ski mountaineer, became the “Queen of the Lake” in 1:05:53.71 hours, just like in 2021.
The German Julian Braun has a particularly intimate love affair with the lake. The Lenzing AG employee has now settled in Upper Austria, the “home advantage” has already brought him four victories in a row in the field of the elite. In 57:20.77 the time trial specialist left Felix Ritzinger (57:40.75) and Rainer Kepplinger (57:43.70) behind. The Magnesium Pur team (1:02:54.88) won the 10-person team time trial, Gaimersheim I (1:01:24.25) the four-person competition. (free)
