Ligue 1: Orienteering fans ensure a special moment at Jerome Boateng’s debut

Ex-national player Jerome Boateng received a positive reception from the fans on his first appearance for OL.

Jerome Boateng (33) made his debut for his new club Olympique Lyon on Sunday. In the 3-1 win against Racing Strasbourg, the central defender came on for Sinaly Diomande in the 61st minute and was enthusiastically received by the fans.

Six minutes after he was taken in, “Boateng, Boateng” chants echoed through the Parc Olympique Lyonnais with around 33,000 spectators. In the 84th minute, Boateng completed his debut with his first yellow card in Ligue 1. It was noticeable that he verbally took over command on the field.

With Boateng on the field was his former Bayern colleague Xherdan Shaqiri, who moved from Liverpool to France for six million euros at the end of August. Moussa Dembele (8th), Jason Denayer (64th) and Lucas Paqueta (87th) scored for Lyon, which is coached by former Bundesliga coach Peter Bosz.

For Lyon it was the second victory in a row after the false start to the season. The former series champions are seventh with eight points after five games, and are seven points behind table leaders Paris St. Germain.

Jerome Boateng signed with Lyon in early September until 2023 after his contract with Bayern Munich was not renewed. Last Thursday he was sentenced to a fine of 1.8 million euros by the Munich District Court for willful assault with insult to his former partner.
