Turkey is still looking for a successor to the sacked national coach Senol Günes. Fatih Terim is unlikely to be.
When looking for a new national coach, the Turkish Association can save a phone call to Fatih Terim. Burak Elmas, President of Terim’s current club Galatasaray Istanbul, has categorically ruled out the 68-year-old’s release.
“Our position here is crystal clear. We are building the Galatasaray team of the future and have agreed on a long-term cooperation with our coach. Therefore we would never comply with such a demand and let him go,” said Elmas before the league game at Trabzonspor ( 2: 2) clear. In any case, he doesn’t think “that our coach would accept such an offer”.
Terim has been national coach four times
The Turkish association split from national coach Senol Günes after the disappointing European Championship and the following weak appearances in the World Cup qualification. It is unclear who will be his successor. Terim had already looked after Turkey for four terms and led them to the EM semifinals in 2008.
After his last engagement as Turkish national coach, the “Imperator” took over the coaching position at Gala in 2017 and has since won the championship twice.
