Florio took second place and took the silver medalescorting the defending champion, the Brazilian Erik Felipe Barbosa Cardoso who scored 10s08. The bronze medal went to the Colombian Ronal Longa with 10s30.
The previous Argentine record was 10s23 and belonged to one of the great sprinters in Argentine history -world semi-finalist in 200-, Carlos Alberto Gats, who had achieved it on July 17, 1998 at the Ibero-American Championship in Lisbon. That mark was matched by the Bahiense Gabriel Simona year later (6-25-99) at the altitude of Bogotá.
From the brand of gats, no Argentine “sprinter” had approached those levels, until the appearance of Florio raised the expectation about its possibilities.
After the stoppage due to the pandemic, shone with his national title and his personal best of 10s24 -one hundredth of the record- by winning the Argentine Championship in Rosario, at the end of 2020.
In the last season, Florio he began to demonstrate his possibilities in international competition, and won the bronze medal at the Pan American U23 in Cali (10s37).
And he marked another milestone last May: bronze medal with 10s31 in the Iberoamerican Championship in La Nucía, Spain.

Athlete from the Quirón Club, located in the city of Buenos Aires, Florio had been in excellent shape by running in 10s20, although with a tailwind, during the qualifying rounds.
In the decisive race in the Brazilian state of Paraná, and after a somewhat hesitant start, he affirmed his actions from 30 meters and fought an intense duel with the favorite Barbosa Cardoso, who managed to maintain a slight advantage until the end, to secure the gold again, like a year ago in Guayaquil.
With its brand in Brazil, Florio ranks as the fourth best South American sprinter this season, in a list led by three Brazilians: Rodrigo Pereira do Nascimento with 10s04; Felipe Bardi dos Santos with 10s04; and the aforementioned Erik with his 10s08.
