Fortunately, a single shot was missing

Golf pro Sepp Straka just missed his second tournament success on the PGA Tour. At the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson/Mississippi, the 29-year-old Viennese only lost in a playoff on the second extra hole against Canadian Mackenzie Hughes. This secured the winner’s check in the amount of $1.26 million and 500 Fed Ex Cup points. Straka’s success at the Honda Classic in Florida at the end of February remains the only PGA triumph by an Austrian for the time being.

As with the $ 15 million St. Jude Championship in Memphis in mid-August, there was no happy ending for Austria’s figurehead in the “tournament extension”. At that time he had lost in the decision with Will Zalatoris against an American. This time again a single shot was missing for great luck.

“Of course I wanted to win, I’m disappointed about that. But I played really well, unfortunately it didn’t work out this time,” said Straka. It is important to him to have gained experience at this top level. “You can’t buy them.”

Straka has now played in the playoffs twice in his recent four tournaments, between which he finished 28th and seventh in the second and third playoff events on the PGA Tour. Immediately after his four-week break from competition, Straka was in top form and improved his place in the world rankings to 26th. Only Bernd Wiesberger, who was 21st before, was better from an Austrian point of view.
