This was ordered by the Conmebol Council at a meeting held in the city of Luque, Paraguay, when verifying that the “technical and logistical conditions” exist for the development of the VAR when examining the proposals of the supplier companies that participated in the tender.
Until this edition, the VAR was implemented from the round of 16 of each tournament.
“The tender has the backing of the prestigious international consulting firm Ernst & Young Argentina, which certified the correctness of the entire process,” Conmebol reported on its official website.

“Conmebol makes VAR images and audio available to all interested parties as quickly as possible and without any editing. Along with working to fully implement VAR in its tournaments, Conmebol promotes training programs for referees in handling of this tool,” the statement said.
The VAR will also be used in the Recopa Sudamericanathe title at stake between the winner of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana.
