PSG – Leonardo clarifies: Not an option in Lionel Messi’s contract

PSG boss Leonardo was angry with the publication of the alleged contract details from Lionel Messi’s contract. He answers clearly.

PSG sporting director Leonardo has revealed new details on Lionel Messi’s contract. The Argentine’s working paper, dated two years ago, contained “no option, not even a mandatory one,” he said RMC confirmed.

Thus, Leonardo contradicted reports that Messi could opt to extend his contract for a year.

Leonardo: “Unacceptable and completely wrong”

L’Equipe reported on Saturday that Messi could earn a total of 110 million euros if he took the option for another year. A loyalty bonus would increase his annual salary from 30 million to 40 million euros from 2022.

Leonardo made it clear that the numbers would not be true: “We cannot accept that something like this should appear on the cover of a newspaper like L’Equipe. That is unacceptable and completely wrong.”

So far, Messi has played two competitive games for his new club. However, he is still waiting for his first goal. On Sunday evening (8.45 p.m.) PSG will face Olympique Lyon in the league at home.
