Five Austrian legionnaires are on the ball today at the start of the group phase in the Women’s Champions League. Two more will intervene tomorrow – as well as Austria’s champion St. Pölten for the first time.
Sarah Zadrazil starts today with Bayern Munich in the home game against Rosengard (6.45 p.m., all games on DAZN). The Munich team warmed up by beating Cologne 4-0 in the Bundesliga on Sunday, Zadrazil played through. The game against the top Swedish club will be played on the Bayern campus – the duel with group favorites FC Barcelona on December 7 is supposed to fill the Allianz Arena. “It will be a match at international top level, and our Allianz Arena offers the right stage for it,” said Bayern President Herbert Hainer. The quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain took place there in March.
Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger and defender Laura Wienroither countered the onslaught from Champions League title holders Lyon in the away game (9 p.m.). Marie-Therese Höbinger and Viktoria Pinther from FC Zurich are also outsiders in the home game against Juventus Turin (6.45 p.m.).
St. Pölten in Wolfsburg as a guest
Carina Wenninger moved from Bayern to AS Roma after the European Championships – the ÖFB defense chief stayed in the Champions League with the new club. The first task tomorrow is Slavia Prague. Marina Georgieva, her concubine in Austria’s national team, will probably initially take a seat on the bench in the hit against Chelsea.
Tomorrow the adventure starts for Austria’s champion St. Pölten. The probably most difficult task of the group has to be solved right at the premiere in the Champions League: The Lower Austrians are guests at the German champions Wolfsburg, in the semi-finals last season.
