After the Hallencup: That’s what the Upper Austrian leagues say

For years, the Upper Austria Indoor Cup has not only been the starting shot for football for the Upper Austrian leagues in the new year – people from other federal states were even looking enviously at the tournament to Upper Austria. After two corona-related cancellations, the 16 teams should have given each other the indoor kick again in January, but as OÖN reported last week: The classic was cancelled.

Above all, the manner in which the tournament was forced to be canceled at very short notice leaves a bitter aftertaste: while three clubs, Ostermiething, Friedburg and Oedt, had already canceled from the start, other clubs abseiled down at very short notice. Such as champion Weißkirchen: “We always liked to play, but our championship celebration is still open. Admittedly, we canceled late, but we only have this one weekend left,” says sports director Fritz Pflug, explaining the decision of the OÖ-Liga- master.

No respond

Other clubs did not even manage to respond to the request for a fixed commitment. In the summer, a great willingness to play in the tournament was signaled at a league meeting. “It’s a mess if you don’t even report back,” says Wallern’s sports director Albert Huspek. “Indoor football isn’t a top priority, but I’ve always found the tournament very attractive.”

Edelweiss sports director Lukas Moser also sees it that way, who doesn’t accept excuses about the susceptibility to injury: “It would be a shame if the indoor cup disappeared. It was a casual event where nothing worse ever happened. There were always enough players to take part cracked.”
