With Kerstin Springer from Rohrbach (38:50 minutes) and Kevin Kamenschak from Linz (34:06), the Linz AG quarter marathon turned out to be a big stage for the Upper Austrian running aces. Although he is currently unable to train normally due to his basic army training, the 18-year-old managed to win at home with the announcement. “It was great to race in the fog, so I didn’t even have to drink,” said Kamenschak. The only problems were the sponsor’s stickers, which no longer held up after the third kilometer due to the moisture.

The track and field athlete took the quarter marathon with him as a training run, which was underpinned by the atypical race preparation. “On Saturday we still practiced hill sprints,” says the ATSV Linz runner, who is aiming for a top ten place at the U20 Cross Country Championships in December. With Springer, the fastest of the “Linzer City Night Run” was also at the top of the women’s quarter marathon. With her second victory, the defending champion drew level with mother Andrea, who had won the half marathon twice in Linz. Whether quarter marathon victories or half marathon victories count more at Springer? “We don’t duel at home,” Kerstin dismissed with a laugh.

Championship title to Illes and Vojta

The national championship titles awarded over the half marathon distance went to Sandrina Illes from Lower Austria (1:14:11 hours) and Andreas Vojta from Vienna (1:03:19). The latter, who overtook Günther Weidlinger as ÖLV record holder with his 47th state championship title, had a bad conscience because after a basic training block he had no strength for more management work. “I apologize that I wasn’t more active,” said Vojta in the direction of his training colleague Dominik Stadlmann, whom he beat by three seconds.

Filmon Teklebrhan from Freiburg delivered the fastest half-marathon time (1:02:56). The native Eritrean, who had only started running in Germany, showed courage when he gave heel to the marathon pacemakers at kilometer 13. Behind Illes and Eva Wutti from Styria (1:14:41), the state championship bronze went to Lisa Oberndorfer. For the 22-year-old from Redlham, being on the podium in her first half marathon was like balm, “because I’ve only been able to run again for eight weeks,” she says.

After a corona infection last winter, the business student struggled with breathing problems for a long time. The endurance athlete feared for her career. “In the meantime we didn’t have too much hope,” Oberndorfer also speaks for her coach father Gerold, who was even happier with his daughter yesterday.

Born in Timelkam, Philip Horwarth (16th in 2:37:06) was the best Austrian right away on his debut in the classic marathon distance. (pue)
