Accompanied by the Ministers of Tourism and Sports, Matthias Lammens; of culture, Tristan Bauer; of Social Development, Victoria Tolosa Paz; and Public Works, Gabriel Katopodis; and by the Secretary of Sports, Ines ArrondoFernandez recalled that Diego Armando Maradona He was one of the athletes who went through the Evita Games, before becoming an international star.

The President in turn recalled that he himself participated in 1973, with a soccer team in the Federal Capital, without being able to overcome the first instances: “I confess I didn’t do as well as you did.”

He also stressed that sports “teach teamwork,” and quoted the former coach of the Argentine soccer team, the late Alejandro Sabella, recalling that “he used to say that you have to understand that the team is the other.”

Lammens highlighted, for his part, the return of the games after their suspension due to the pandemic, and assured that in this edition there was a “record of competitors”, with “more than 1 million” from the preliminary instances to the finals.

In these finals, more than 25,000 competitors will compete until Saturday for the first places in 55 sports disciplines, with twelve new competitions: seven conventional ones -climbing, futsal, beach handball, rollerblading, tennis, archery and skateboarding- and another five adapted for people with disabilities – badminton, soccer 3, powerlifting, taekwondo and tennis.

Together, the 2,000 finalists of the 17th will participate this year. edition of the Cultural Games Evita, of the categories under 15, under 18, single category (from 12 to 18 years old) and, for the first time, for people with disabilities.

The opening ceremony of this final phase began in the Plazoleta Almirante Brown, next to the Central Casino, where thousands of young members of the different delegations witnessed the presentations of the theatrical percussion group Choque Urbano.

In the opening ceremony, the athletes Abigail Magistrati (artistic gymnastics), Luca Alfieri (gymnastics), Nazareno Sasia (athletics), Lucas Vilar (cycling), Salma Antorena (shooting) and Fernanda Russo (sports shooting).

After the official launch of the decisive instances of the games, until next Saturday the athletes will compete in more than 100 stages throughout the city.

Evita Cultural Games

In turn, within the framework of the Evita Cultural Games, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, workshops, talks and exhibitions will be held in four venues: the Provincial Museum of Contemporary Art MAR, the Theater Auditorium Provincial Center for the Arts, the Cultural Center Cultural Space La Casa de Enfrente, and the Plazoleta Almirante Brown.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, more than 1 million athletes participate in the Games, from the provincial qualifying stages to the national finals, with representatives from all the provinces.

The portfolio in charge of Lammens also specified that this year there were already finals of beach games in Mar de Ajó, and winter, in San Martín de los Andes, and after the finals of juveniles and Adapted in Mar del Plata they will take ahead those of older people, in San Luis, from November 7 to 11.

After the end of the competitions, the closing of the Games will be in charge of the artists Milo Moya, Shitstem and Los Eternos.

The first Evita Games were held in 1948, at the initiative of Eva Perón and the then Minister of Health, Ramón Carrillo, and in 2008, under the presidency of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, they were instituted by law as an annual competition.

For almost 75 years, national sports figures such as Maradona, César Luis Menotti, Carlos Bilardo, José Sanfilippo, Nadia Báez, Celina Di Santo, Leandro Bolmaro and Braian Toledo, among others, participated in these games.
