Come back in December: the World Cup arrived in Argentina

The original trophy was presented at an event that took place at the Futsal Coliseum of the Argentine Football Association in Ezeiza.

Alberto Tarantini, Omar Larrosa and Daniel Bertoni, three representatives of the 1978 conquest, and Ricardo Giusti, Sergio Batista and Carlos Tapia, winners in Mexico 1986, were the six privileged ones who were able to lift the World Cup that will be at stake from November 20 in Qatar.

With the presence of the president of the AFA, Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, and the leadership of former goalkeeper Sergio Goycochea, a finalist in Italy 1990, the six world champions with the “Albiceleste” exhibited the imposing trophy before the guests for a few minutes.

Starting on Wednesday, the World Cup will be on display for the public at the La Rural venue, until Thursday the 27th from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“This is a country that loves and breathes football. Thanks to the world champions, because without them we would not have these two stars. They took Argentine football to the top and gave us the chance to feel like champions,” said “Chiqui” Tapia at the beginning of his speech before the eyes of the six former soccer players who were representing the 43 who made up both teams.

“We are on the eve of a tournament that we all dream of. We must continue with our feet on the ground and with this ambitious project, in which all the teams were consolidated. That is the World Cup that we are going to win from the AFA,” he added the head of the mother house of Argentine soccer.

“Hopefully, at the end of the year, we can go down in history and have this cup that is so significant in our country,” “Chiqui” completed.

Later, Goycochea, amid jokes about how “close” he was to lifting the Cup in Italy 1990, invited the six World Champions who were received with applause from all those present.

Each expressed their excitement at having the World Cup close again and recalled their experience after winning the most important trophy in football.

“Checho” Batista was the first to speak and recalled, with laughter, the short time he had the trophy in his hands since Diego Maradona “did not give it to anyone.”

“Diego nobody gave it to him. We only had it for a minute and on the plane I had it hugged and did not give it to you. Now we are going to have it longer, it seems to me,” joked the former midfielder of the Carlos Salvador Bilardo champion team.

Carlos “Chino” Tapia starred in the emotional part and won applause again when he named all the deceased World Champions: Rubén Galván, René Houseman and Leopoldo Luque from ’78 and José Luis Cucciufo, José Luis Brown and Diego Maradona, from ’78. 86.

“Those of ’78 were our references and in Mexico we made our history with the best in the world, whom we miss,” Tapia remarked.

“The Cup represents the pure glory of football. We are here to encourage and help in whatever way we can. We are all excited. It is a tough and difficult competition, but we have a lot of faith,” said “Gringo” Giusti.

The “Rabbit” Tarantini, one of the protagonists of the “Embrace of the Soul” with Ubaldo Fillol in the 1978 celebrations, recounted his pride in “wearing the shirt” of the selected team since “representing a country is the most beautiful thing that can happen to a player.”

“I hope there are more world champions,” the former defender wished, as did Omar Larrosa, who encouraged the team led by Lionel Scaloni to continue on this path.

Daniel Bertoni, author of one of the goals in the final played at the Monumental stadium against the Netherlands, valued this fact and was the one who mentioned the current captain of the national team, Lionel Messi.

“I hope that the third star can be raised by Messi, because he deserves it. We are going to support this team because it is a team with attitude and a lot of football,” he stressed.

After the words, it was time to unveil the trophy and there posed the six World champions who once again raised that Cup made of solid gold that weighs 6,142 kilos and whose design recreates two human figures holding a globe.

The World Cup can only be touched and lifted by the world champions and the heads of state of the 211 federations that make up FIFA.

This is the fifth time that the original trophy has been in Argentina, one of the few countries that participated in all the previous tours organized by the Coca-Cola company, FIFA’s commercial partner, in the countdown to previous World Cups.

The first time he came to the country was to Mar del Plata in 2006, on the way to the World Cup in Germany, and in 2010, before going to South Africa, he passed through Córdoba. He returned to the “Happy” in the prologue of Brazil 2014 and began a more extensive and federal raid in the preparations for Russia 2018. On that occasion, the trophy was in Berazategui, City of Buenos Aires, Rosario and Tucumán.

For the first time, the World Cup will go through the 32 countries that will participate in the World Cup in Qatar and in total it will cover 51 territories. By 2030, FIFA wants it to go through all 211 member countries.

The World Cup arrived today from Brazil, and previously it was in Mexico. After Argentina, the tour will continue through Uruguay.

The path to the trophy began in Dubai in May and will end in Doha a few days before the start of the World Cup.

The original trophy is The current form emerged in the 1974 edition of Germany since previously the trophy inspired by a tribute to Jules Rimet was awarded.

The regulations of the World Cup indicate that the winners of the tournament receive the original trophy at the coronation but then it is returned to FIFA. The winning federation then receives a replica, covered in gold, engraved with the year and the host country.
