Blue and white lack of space: “We need help”

“It just can’t go on like this anymore,” says Werner Mayer, sports director of the Blau-Weiss Linz amateurs, a cry for help – and does not mean the dreary sporting situation of the second team in the Landesliga Ost, but the lack of space for the club. The infrastructure for the amateur team down to the youth teams of Linz is causing more and more headaches. Mayer: “We knew that if the Donaupark stadium was rebuilt and LASK started its work on the Gugl, we would be missing three places in one fell swoop. We already addressed this in 2020, but this topic wasn’t that acute during the Corona period . A lot was promised, hardly anything happened.”

Originally, the blue and white amateurs should have found a home on the Westbahn-Platz for this season – that too is now history: “Westbahn pulled the ripcord because the place was simply no longer playable due to the many teams. The agreement was made but not finally resolved.”

exploding costs

They temporarily found a new home at SV Urfahr: “We are grateful for that, they help us to keep the game going. We need help. Politicians must also get involved.” The space issue also has financial implications – due to the large number of space rents, the costs for the Landesliga penultimate explode. There is also unrest in the environment: “We don’t know today where we will train tomorrow. The parents are upset, the coaches are restless. Despite these circumstances, our teams are doing well. We also have a social responsibility, and we don’t even want that a kid can’t train.”
