Hat-trick was irrelevant for Zulj: ‘It was an important step’

With a hat trick he led his team 4:1 after four home games without a win in the Bundesliga again to a complete success. That’s why his goals weren’t that important for the 30-year-old.

“I’m glad that we won again after two months at home – with a very, very good performance,” said the man from Wels. “That was an important step. We were dominant on the ball – that’s what we often lack when we’re in a difficult phase.”

Only Wolfsberg had problems yesterday. When it was 1-0, Zulj circled a free kick over the wall (11′) and converted one into the far corner after Peter Michorl rolled the ball to the side (23′). In between, he only had to pause his foot because Sascha Horvath, at 1.65 meters the shortest player on the pitch, headed Michorl’s corner kick (17′).

“Will help us even more”

Zulj also had the 4-0 on his foot to score four times like Marin Ljubicic in the 5-1 in Wolfsberg – but Zulj was unable to convert Keito Nakamura’s Stangl pass (44th). “Out of ten times I have to do eleven,” Zulj said with a wink. “I like to give priority to our strikers, they should score the goals. It’s much more important to me that we won. Whether I then score three goals or four isn’t that important to me.”

Nevertheless, he was proud of his second career hat-trick – Al-Ittihad Kalba scored the first in May. The time at the club in the United Arab Emirates is also the reason why coach Dietmar Kühbauer sees potential for improvement: “He will help us even more in the spring because he is still not at 100 percent.”

“It was important for the heads”

“I’m very satisfied from minute one to minute 90,” said LASK trainer Dietmar Kühbauer. He wasn’t just happy about the dominant performance: “With the win, we’re staying at the top. It was also very important for the minds.” Because the last four home games without a win had left their mark. “We played well at home but dropped points.”

Now LASK will definitely remain in the top six with two more games in the fall, and in the spring the regular season will end after six more games. Kühbauer: “The first goal is to be in the championship group. It would have to be the devil if we didn’t make it.” He could make friends with the current third place at the end of the season. “If we were third at the end of the season, we would probably take that.”

“We’ve put ourselves in a good position,” said Robert Zulj. On Sunday, LASK is a guest at Rapid, a week later the autumn final at home against Sturm Graz. The performance against Wolfsberg gives self-confidence. “We created a lot of chances to score and defended well as a team. That’s exactly how we have to play against Rapid.”

“The goal conceded is annoying”

After Zulj’s hat-trick, Keito Nakamura made it 4-0 (59′), Maurice Malone’s 4-1 prevented the second Bundesliga game without conceding a goal after the 1-0 win at Sturm Graz. Peter Michorl: “The goal against is a bit annoying. But at 4:1 we can overlook it.”
