After four unbeaten competitive games in a row, SV Ried lost 2-1 away to second-placed Sturm Graz on Sunday evening. The defeat was not a reason for hanging heads. “We sold ourselves very dearly. I think we played very bravely, especially after half-time. Unfortunately we conceded the unfortunate 2-1 draw, but in general I think we put on a decent performance,” said Ried- Coach Christian Heinle during training on Monday. Yesterday the team had no training, from today the full focus is on the last home game of the year on Saturday (5 p.m.) against Austria Klagenfurt. The Carinthians with veteran coach Peter Pacult have played a strong season so far and are fifth in the table with 20 points. In the last game of the autumn season, which ends earlier this year due to the football World Cup in Qatar, Ried will be away on Saturday, November 12 against the second surprise team of the season so far. The WSG Tirol is currently fourth in the table.
“Both teams have great quality on the offensive. It will be important that we bring our Rieder virtues such as compactness, willingness to run and commitment back onto the pitch. If we present ourselves courageously in the game with the ball, then something is definitely possible for us “, says Heinle.
“Hope for many viewers”
After three away games in a row, Riedern are looking forward to Saturday’s game against Klagenfurt in their home Josko Arena. “We’re extremely happy to finally be able to play in front of our fans again. We know how important they are to us. They always gave us great support, even during the difficult phase. I hope that a lot of spectators will come to the stadium against Klagenfurt.” says Heinle.
Whether captain Marcel Ziegl, who underwent knee surgery on September 19, will be in the squad again this year is uncertain. “There is a small hope that he can be there in Tyrol next week,” says the Ried trainer. Ziegl is currently doing individual training.
After the winter break, Nikola Stosic, Junior Diomande and Josef Weberbauer will return to team training. After the game against Tirol, Riedern will take a two-week break, and they will train from November 28th to December 16th. During this time, some test games are also planned. According to SV Ried’s sports director Thomas Reicheltshammer (probably in Ried), there will be a friendly against Budweis on December 2nd, and a match against German second division club Jahn Regensburg (away) is planned for December 16th.
Then there is a second break, which will end with the start of training on January 3, 2023.
