Gerard Piqué has announced his departure from FC Barcelona. In an emotional video he addressed the “culés” – the fans of the club for which he played for years.

Nowadays there are only a few footballers who spend at least most or even their entire career at the same club. Gerard Piqué belongs to this type of player. At a young age he switched to the youth team of FC Barcelona, for whom he played over 600 competitive games and with whom he was able to experience many great moments.

But soon this chapter will close. On Thursday evening, the defender published a video on his social media channels. In it he addresses the fans with the headline “Culés, I have something to tell you”.

Piqué explains his Barca farewell – last home game of the weekend

The video shows very emotional moments in the long career of the 35-year-old, who was born in Barcelona. Of course, the focus is on his time at FCB.

“In the last few weeks and months, a lot of people have talked about me. So far I haven’t said anything about it. But now I want to be the one who says something about me,” he introduced.

Piqué continued: “Ever since I was little I didn’t just want to be a professional footballer – I wanted to be a Barca player. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about little Gerard. I wonder what he would say if he was told that that he will achieve all his dreams. That he will make the Barcelona first team. That he will win any trophy.”

“It’s been 25 years since I joined Barca. I left – and came back. […] Barcelona gave me everything. You, Culés, have given me everything. And now that little Gerard has achieved all his goals, I want to tell you that it’s time to end this journey.”

He emphasized: “I’ve always said that after Barca there will be no other team for me. And it will stay that way. Next Saturday’s game will be my last at the Camp Nou.”
