A good week before the start of the ATP finals in Turin, Spain’s tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz had to give up at the Masters tournament in Paris. Due to an abdominal muscle injury, the number 1 in the world rankings ended his quarter-final game against the Dane Holger Rune prematurely with a score of 3: 6, 6: 6 and 1: 3 in the tie-break of the second set.
The 19-year-old had previously been treated on the pitch when the score was 5:6. “I think it was a great game. It’s unfortunate for him,” Rune said afterwards.
It is unclear whether the US Open winner can compete in the tournament for the best eight tennis players of the year from November 13th to 20th in Turin. “Holger was better today and deserved to win. It was difficult for me to give up, but I was afraid it would get worse. Health comes first,” Alcaraz later wrote on Twitter.
