Ski jumping without snow: Kraft took third place at the World Cup premiere

Manuel Fettner also showed with 123 and 129 m jumps and fourth place that he is still a force to be reckoned with at the age of 37.

Daniel Tschofenig in sixth place and Philipp Aschenwald in eighth ensured a strong ÖSV team performance, although three Austrians had already failed before. The best ÖSV athlete in the qualification on Friday had to watch the final in the first competition of the season: Michael Hayböck only ended up in 41st place after 112 meters. Daniel Huber also didn’t make it into the top 30 and came in 37th. Jan Hörl had failed in qualifying.

Nevertheless, Austria is only 17 points behind Poland in second place in the Nations Cup after the first of 39 (!) planned competitions, which should not end until the beginning of April in Planica. The second prank follows on Sunday (4 p.m. / live ORF 1).

Kraft used the good conditions in the second round to create the longest set together with Granerud. “There was a good upwind now, I’m sure I was a bit lucky,” said Kraft in an ORF interview and spoke of an aggressive and courageous jump. “I knew that I was good at ski jumping, but the rain isn’t really my thing, so I’m very surprised and super happy,” said the Beijing team’s Olympic champion.

ÖSV jumpers strong as a team

Speaking of the team, this one also showed itself to be strong. “We were very good as a team, even in qualifying. That’s no coincidence. We have seven very strong players.”

For Fettner, who got off to a good start in the late autumn of last season with team Olympic gold and silver on the normal hill, it was also a perfect start. “That was a really cool jump, it was just like the good ones in summer,” said Fettner, who recently had some difficulties switching from the ceramic to the ice track. He didn’t waste a thought on the missed podium place. “I’m super happy with the start. We’ve had such a long season, I couldn’t have wished for a better start.”

Tschofenig spoke of the uncertainty before the start of the season. “You never know where you stand. I’m super satisfied, we did a really good job.”
