This OÖ-League season lets the records tumble. In the last round, the highest victory in Upper Austria league history was celebrated – and twice: Both the SPG Wallern/St. Marienkirchen (towards Stadl-Paura) and St. Martin/M. (against FC Wels) celebrated 12-0 wins.
But the joy about it is limited. “Satisfaction is a very important asset in life. Of course, it also has a pale aftertaste,” says Wallern sports director Albert Huspek after the goal festival against the tail light. His team clearly had fun against the Upper Austria League whipping boy, Wallern’s official only partially: “Such a game is actually not funny. I much prefer a game like that against Oedt, which is on a knife edge and which we win. The bottom line it’s not conducive to the league.” St. Martin trainer Stefan Hartl sees it in a similar way: “The shooting competition doesn’t make us happy. There aren’t any leagues like this, at most in the youngsters.”
Another record will be shattered tomorrow in Edelweiss’s match against Pregarten: 48 goals were scored in seven games in the 14th round of the Upper Austrian League up until yesterday. If at least one goal is scored in Linz, it would be the highest-scoring match day in history. There have been a total of 493 goals this season – an average of more than four goals per game.
Stadl-Paura alone conceded the goals 89 to 100 against Wallern. “The team is very young and not yet suitable for the league. We are looking for reinforcements,” says Stadl-Paura sports director Johann Stöttinger. Coach Mario Wittmann stays on board – if he wants to.
