Borussia Dortmund meets Chelsea, Eintracht Frankfurt meets Napoli and RB Leipzig meets Manchester City.
Club Brugge v Benfica, AC Milan v Tottenham and Inter v FC Porto complete the round of 16 to be played in February and March 2023 respectively. The first legs are from 14./15. until 21./22. scheduled for February.
Bayern versus PSG was the final in 2020, when Bayern won 1-0. While the Munich team, with Marcel Sabitzer, was the only team to finish this year’s group stage with the maximum number of points, the Parisians had to settle for second place due to the total number of away goals scored.
“I’ve always said we’ll take it as it comes. Top game. Top opponent,” said Bayern’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic in a Sky interview. “I’m looking forward to the games. This is a draw that is a treat for any football fan.” For Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn, PSG is “one of the toughest opponents you can get”. He announced two highly attractive games, the odds in his opinion: 50:50.
The three other teams from Germany were also given difficult tasks. Napoli are the clear leaders in the Italian Serie A and have also presented themselves sovereign in the Champions League so far. A particularly tough challenge awaits Eintracht and coach Oliver Glasner.
Leipzig also meets Manchester City and thus also striker Erling Haaland. The Norwegian faces Marco Rose, one of his former coaches at Red Bull Salzburg. Haaland’s former club Dortmund will have to compete with Chelsea, who finished first in the group stage. “We have a top team waiting for us. With Aubameyang and Pulisic we’re meeting old friends. We’re looking forward to seeing you again and of course we want to advance to the next round,” said BVB coach Edin Terzic.
