Union Berlin is now second with 27 points because of the better goal difference, but only managed to draw 2-2 (2-2) against FC Augsburg. With 31 points, FC Bayern can no longer be relegated from first place before the last matchday in 2022.

A strong second half secured the in-form Leipzigers three points against Freiburg and coach Christian Streich. Two goals by Mohamed Simakan (54th) and France’s World Cup driver Christopher Nkunku (56th) made it 2-0 after the break. After being connected by Lukas Kübler (66th), Emil Forsberg (78th) scored to make it 3-1.

Union only got one point after Sunday’s 5-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen against relegation candidate FC Augsburg. Sheraldo Becker (7th) and Kevin Behrens (22nd) put the Berliners in the lead twice. Florian Niederlechner (9th/39th) equalized for FCA.

Strong frankfurters

Eintracht Frankfurt underlined its Champions League ambitions with another convincing Mario Götze. In the 4: 2 (3: 1) against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, the Hessians stormed into fourth place with 26 points. Djibril Sow (6th), Randal Kolo Muani (8th), Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe (26th) and Jesper Lindström (56th) marked Eintracht’s goals. Christoph Baumgartner (38th) and Ozan Kabak (46th) could only shorten for the guests.

bottom of the table Schalke 04 won for the first time under coach Thomas Reis and ended their negative series. With a 1-0 (1-0) win over FSV Mainz 05, the Royal Blues achieved their first success after seven league defeats in a row. Striker Simon Terodde scored in the 10th minute for Schalke 04, who remain bottom with nine points.

Bayer Leverkusen won the Rheinderby 2-1 (0-1) at 1. FC Köln with six strong minutes and climbed to 13th place with their second win in a row. Benno Schmitz (30th) gave the hosts the lead. Nadiem Amiri (65th) and Moussa Diaby (71st) turned the game around for coach Xabi Alonso’s team in front of 50,000 spectators.
