“Electric”: Brady won first NFL game in Germany

The Bucs defeated the Seattle Seahawks by a narrow margin of 21:16 on Sunday in the sold-out Allianz Arena in Munich in front of around 69,800 fans. Brady, 45, impressed with two touchdown passes and led his team to their fifth win in ten games of the season. It was only the fourth defeat for the Seahawks around quarterback Geno Smith.

“It was a great atmosphere, electric,” enthused Brady about the guest appearance in Bavaria after the end of the game. “A great win, we needed it. We still have a long way to go.”

In front of the eyes of ÖFB kickers David Alaba, Marko Arnautovic and Marcel Sabitzer, Tampa Bay achieved a comfortable lead, also thanks to Brady. Veteran Julio Jones and Chris Godwin each caught a touchdown pass, running back Leonard Fournette also made it into the end zone. In the second half, the Seahawks had hope again after a failed trick play by the Bucs: Fournette threw a pass to Brady, but Brady slipped on the wet surface, and a Seattle defender intercepted the football.

Brady also had an interception just before the end after 399 passes, narrowly missing the record set by Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (402). Tyler Lockett and Marquise Goodwin made the game exciting again for the Seahawks with caught touchdown passes.

The NFL made its first guest appearance in Germany as part of its internationalization. Five regular season games are currently played outside of the United States each season, three in London and one in Mexico. In Germany, the NFL will alternately play one game per season in Munich and Frankfurt am Main in the coming years until at least 2025. However, due to the high level of fan interest, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell believes it is possible to increase the number of games in Germany, as he hinted before the game in Munich.

Brady, seven-time Super Bowl winner, announced his resignation in mid-March after just 40 days and added another season in the professional American football league. In their division (NFC South), the Buccaneers are in the lead despite the low number of wins compared to the league, first place guarantees a place in the play-offs.
