After his second farewell to Schalke, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has still not ended his career. He runs on in the district class.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has found a new club after leaving FC Schalke 04: The 38-year-old is now playing again for his hometown club HC’03 from Drempt. Not for the best men’s team in the club, but for the sixth team.
“He has recently withdrawn from the public eye and has quietly said goodbye to professional football,” said club boss Mart de Kruif Regio8. “He just wants to play football now. He doesn’t have to do anything here and can do anything,” he added.
“Great team with a strong third half”
De Kruif himself is one of Huntelaar’s new teammates in the sixth at the age of 63. The striker’s brother also kicks in this team. “It’s a great team with a strong third half,” said the club boss.
According to de Kruif, the fact that a former world star is now playing HC’03 across the region’s amateur pitches is no big deal for the club’s members: “He’s been here several times before, so it’s not sensational for us,” he said.
