Ander Herrera had a strong start to the season wearing the Paris Saint-Germain jersey. In the summer, however, there was a move to FC Barcelona.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera might have returned to his homeland last summer. Father Pedro confirmed in an interview with the French newspaper The teamthat Herrera was in negotiations with FC Barcelona.
“At some point, Ander was in contact with Barca but it didn’t work out for various reasons,” said Herrera Sr. The 32-year-old midfielder was considered a sales candidate after PSG’s shopping spree in the summer, but ultimately stayed with the French.
Is Herrera returning to Zaragoza?
The start of the season for Herrera was then extremely positive. In eight league games he was involved in five goals, in the Champions League he scored the only goal in the disappointing 1-1 at Club Bruges. This is not the only reason why Herrera junior is not sad that a move to Barcelona did not work out – although he has not played for the Catalans, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid to this day.
“He didn’t fail just because he didn’t wear the colors of the big three in Spain. Because from his point of view, Zaragoza, where he started, is the biggest club in the country,” said Pedro Herrera. In 2011, his son moved from Real Zaragoza to Athletic Bilbao and joined Manchester United three years later. He has been running for PSG since 2019, and his contract runs until summer 2024.
His father thinks it is likely that Herrera will one day return to today’s second division team in Zaragoza – even if not as club president. “I don’t think so. But as an influential manager or as a shareholder, definitely,” he said.
