The German national soccer team can hope for Leroy Sané again in the second World Cup group game against Spain on Sunday. “Leroy is on the pitch and training for himself. That’s positive,” reported national coach Hansi Flick on Thursday.
The 26-year-old offensive player from German record champions FC Bayern Munich missed the 2-1 defeat of the DFB selection against Japan because of knee problems. Flick had regretted this in advance because Sané “is a difference player and can turn a game on his own with his qualities”.
In the duel with the Spaniards, who won their first group game against Costa Rica 7-0, the German team is under pressure to succeed. Another defeat would mean the premature end of the World Cup if Japan does not lose against Costa Rica beforehand.
