“FIFA is not a non-profit organisation, but a profit machine on the back of human rights,” said Aline Trede of the Green Party. “Let’s end the tax privileges for FIFA.”
In a statement, Switzerland’s fifth-largest political party announced that it would table a parliamentary motion to tax FIFA in the same way as other companies of its size. “FIFA’s ban on the ‘One Love’ armband is definitely the final straw,” stressed Trede.
The ‘One Love’ loops are intended to send a message of tolerance and rejection of any form of discrimination. However, FIFA has threatened several European captains with yellow cards if they wear them at the World Cup in support of LGBTQ people in host country Qatar. Homosexuality is illegal there.
