Qatar was left without options to get into the round of 16 with one game to go due to the 1-1 draw between Ecuador and the Netherlands in the second round.
After losing their first match against Ecuador, Qatar finally managed to score a goal in the tournament, but lost 3-1 to the African team, leaving them bottom of Group A.
In the absence of the final day, Ecuador and the Netherlands add four points each, Senegal three and Qatar zero, so the local will only play for honor against the European team.

“I think we played a good game. When you come here you have to know where you come from (as a country). Whether this is a failure and a disappointment depends on expectations. Our goal was to be competitive, (…) we’ve had a lot of months working to be able to give a good performance”Sanchez noted.
And he added: “But sometimes the game doesn’t develop as expected. It also depends on the opponent’s performance. We didn’t play at our highest level. We were competitive but we didn’t improve.”
With the last match against group favorites the Netherlands, Qatar risks becoming the first World Cup host not to win a single game.
“We are aware of how tough this competition is. We wanted to go far, but we know that we have limitations as a country. It is a small country, with a small population. The local league is not very competitive, it is our first time in the World Cup. If we can to participate again, it would be great. It is always useful to acquire more experience”, closed the DT.
