Ben Manga and Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed to terminate the contract. Now the 48-year-old describes the reasons for his departure.
In an interview with sports1 Manga confirms that he is leaving SBU due to his difficult relationship with sports director Markus Krösche. He emphasizes that he gets along well with Krösche on a human level. The decisive factor for the separation is the different work approaches that he and his supervisor maintain.
“It’s a perfectly normal process in the workplace,” Manga continues. “If you’ve worked for a company for a long time and the new boss has a different approach, then there are two ways. Either you come to terms with it and work the way the new boss wants it. Or you look for a new challenge. In the end, I have to Accept changes in the club.”
Lack of support in the club
At the same time, Manga criticizes the Frankfurt club management, which he does not feel sufficiently supported by. When asked specifically whether he would have liked more support from the chairman of the supervisory board, Philip Holzer, who had promoted him from chief scout to director of professional football, the ex-professional replies: “If you know how the line was with certain people in the club before my contract was extended was and how he was afterwards, it wasn’t an easy situation for me. The club knew how Ben Manga works, after all I’ve been there for many years.”
Before Krösche was installed as a sports director, he would have liked better coordination and detailed discussions. “Apparently Markus Krösche wasn’t quite aware of how I work,” explains Manga. “If me in the talks [zwischen Krösche und der Eintracht] If someone explains how the employee is going to do it, I can always check whether it suits my working style and say: ‘We have to find a solution or talk to each other’. However, this conversation did not take place. That moment was missed back then.”
Most recently, various media reported unanimously that he will take over the post of sports director at English second division club Watford. However, an official confirmation is still pending.
