As the club announced on Monday, Coventry has received an eviction notice from the new stadium owners. The Frasers Group have asked the club to first agree to a new license before Coventry can play in the Coventry Building Society arena again.
The club said they were surprised, after all, it was only in March 2021 that they agreed to a long-term license that would allow Coventry to play in the stadium until 2031. “Frasers Group have now presented Coventry City with a new contract with new financial terms which has been presented to us without any dialogue or negotiation and is less beneficial for the football club,” it said.
The Frasers Group took over the stadium in November from Wasps rugby club, which filed for bankruptcy in October. Frasers Group is owned by Mike Ashley, former owner of Newcastle United. Coventry City’s next home game against Swansey City is set for December 17th.
