With his saves, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny carried Poland’s selection into the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar, where the 3-1 loss to France ended on Sunday.
So while the French were celebrating their heroes – especially double goalscorer Kylian Mbappe – there was frustration on the other side. Not only among Poland’s players, but also among their fans and families.
As cameras caught, Szczesny was challenged beyond the final whistle as he comforted his son, who was visibly fighting back tears. The junior was obviously just as affected by the World Cup as his old man:
