What applies to every Austrian lower house footballer also applies to the big stars at the World Cup in Qatar: No jewelry may be worn during the game, the risk of injury is simply too great.
Jules Kounde, who works for FC Barcelona, apparently forgot about it when France won 3-1 in the World Cup round of 16 against Poland and wore two gold necklaces. The referee, who instructed the player to take off the jewelry shortly before half-time, noticed this very well.
France’s team boss Didier Deschamps was not very happy about the cause. “He has no right to it. He also cannot play with sunglasses or a watch, it is not allowed. I thought he had taken it off, but that obviously wasn’t the case. This is our fault. After the game I said to him: You’re lucky you weren’t in front, otherwise…” said Deschamps at the press conference.
His team meets England in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
