Just in time for the arrival of the biathlon circus, Hochfilzen put on a winter dress yesterday. Everything seems to have been prepared for another Schützenfest in the tranquil 1120-inhabitant community in the Tyrolean Pillerseetal, where spectators will be admitted again from Thursday after two years without fans due to Corona. It remains to be seen whether the local skiers are ready. But the local hero seems to be in good form: Lisa Hauser surprisingly won the sprint competition at the start in Kontiolahti.
A visit to the masseur, plus spending time with friend Lorenz, whom she hasn’t been able to see for the past few weeks: Hauser is taking it easy again in preparation for the home competitions before the hype with 20,000 biathlon fans expected. She wants to curb excessive expectations for the time being: “My performance in the next few weeks will certainly be up and down due to my lack of training,” says the 28-year-old, referring to the many weeks of training missed due to health problems.
To date, eighth place in the 2020 mass start is the best result she has had in Hochfilzen. “I’m sure I still have room for improvement,” says the mass start world champion.
Lots of room for improvement
Above all, the ÖSV men still have that. Felix Leitner and Co. only managed to convince with fourth place in the relay last Friday. In all three individual competitions, the locals ended up in the beaten field.
