A “suspicious colon tumor” has been removed from the former Brazilian soccer star Pelé. Now he’s undergoing chemotherapy. There is no official talk of cancer.
After his tumor operation, the Brazilian soccer star Pelé has to undergo chemotherapy. According to his medical team, the 80-year-old was discharged from the hospital in São Paulo on Thursday (local time), where he had been operated on at the beginning of September for a “suspicious” colon tumor. Pele was in “stable” condition, the doctors said. The medical professionals did not mention the word “cancer” in their report, but chemotherapy is usually used to treat cancer.
Pelé: Happy to be home again
The three-time soccer world champion himself wrote on Facebook that he was “happy to be back home” and thanked his fans all over the world for their “many messages of love”.
Pelé is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time. In the past few years he had repeatedly struggled with health problems. In April 2019, Pelé had to be treated in a hospital in Paris for a severe urinary tract infection. He also suffers from hip problems and is dependent on a walking aid.
