Only rank 14 at the start: slalom ace Linus Straßer. He’s not satisfied. Victory goes to a Norwegian.
Ski racer Linus Straßer clearly missed the hoped-for podium place at the slalom start in Val d’Isère. The 30-year-old ski “lion” from TSV 1860 Munich finished 14th in the French Alps and initially cursed his performance.
Victory went to Norway’s Lucas Braathen, who finished 0.84 seconds ahead of Austria’s Manuel Feller. Third was Loic Meillard (+0.98) from Switzerland.
“Certainly not perfect. But considering the relationship I have to the slope, I’m satisfied,” said Straßer with a little distance to the competition. It was the German’s ninth World Cup appearance in Val d’Isere. He has been without points seven times so far. “I was a bit concerned with making peace with this slope,” explained the technician.
Straßer gambled away his chance of a top result in the first round – he was 1.51 seconds short of the best time. At least since his victory in January in Schladming, the man from Munich has been one of the favorites in the slalom. What the 30-year-old lacks is consistency.
Anton Tremmel was the second-best German in 21st place. Sebastian Holzmann finished in the points on his World Cup comeback in 25th place. Alexander Schmid, who had impressed the day before in sixth place in the giant slalom, was eliminated in his weaker technical discipline after a driving error as well Fabian Himmelsbach and David Ketterer. Adrian Meisen also missed out on the points in 44th place.
