Women’s Four Hills Tournament “not before 2024/25”

Women’s Four Hills Tournament “not before 2024/25”

It will “not come before 2024/25,” said Stadlober on Wednesday at a press conference on the occasion of the Villach World Cup competitions in the Alpine Arena there. However, the “Silvester tournament” Villach-Ljubno with four events on the two normal hills should remain fixed.

For the overall winner after the competitions on 28./29.12. in Villach or 31.12. and 1.1.23 in Ljubno (SLO) an additional prize money of 20,000 Swiss francs (20,265.48 euros) will be paid out. “Women’s ski jumping is in its 11th year at the World Cup and it’s definitely on the upswing,” said Mario Stecher, the sporting director of the ÖSV for ski jumping and Nordic combined. The New Year’s tournament should also be a counterpart to the German-Austrian tour.

Local hero Wiegele

After Christmas, Villach is the next World Cup venue for women after the weekend competitions in Titisee-Neustadt. In both Carinthia and Slovenia, normal hills are used for jumping. “I’m assuming that Eva Pinkelnig and Sara Marita Kramer will be up front again,” said Stecher.

Youngster Hannah Wiegele is a local hero from Carinthia and she also sees a real home advantage. The hill has a rather unusually steep inrun. The hill should be ready for jumping before Christmas and the home advantage can therefore also be used in the first jumps of the local elite.

Because of a Four Hills Tournament for women, people in Germany are apparently already ready, in Austria, according to Stadlober, there are still many factors to be considered. In any case, it is gratifying that the interest of Austrian companies in women’s ski jumping has clearly increased and it is also easier to get sponsors.
