Eleven lines is the letter from the world football association FIFA that was last received by ÖFB honorary president Leo Windtner – its content is nevertheless a relief. Six years after the opening of the procedure in 2016, it has now also been confirmed by international sources, ” that there is no indication of a breach of the FIFA code of ethics and the proceedings are therefore closed.” This also officially confirms that Windtner did nothing wrong when applying for $100,000 in support for the Acakoro Football Academy.
The Austrian business and corruption prosecutor had already stopped their investigations in 2020, which had been started on the basis of a complaint according to newspaper reports. FIFA, on the other hand, took two years longer. Windtner: “It was a very strange procedure. I never heard anything or even had access to the files, I just had to submit new documents. Even with a clear conscience, it’s a burden. Especially when it’s dragging on for such a long period of time. “
Windtner has also successfully taken legal action against the deepest media attacks, for which he was accused of corruption.
He has never regretted the commitment to the good cause that he began in 2014, quite the opposite: “It’s not enough to talk about football’s social mission. You have to do something.”
A next step is already being planned and is well on the way thanks to an investor with a big heart and the corresponding financial strength.
From the slums to Innsbruck
“The vision is for Acakoro to have its own sports facility. So far we are in the slums on sports fields that belong to the public.” With the closure of the last remaining proceedings, there is additional momentum.
“Of course it was a controlled campaign. But it’s about the thing. The Acakoro Football Academy has become an ever larger heart project over time, also due to the external circumstances. The gratitude and laughter of the children were worth every sleepless night. If I see how many of them have found their way out of the slums and that, for example, the first girl from the academy has now made it to Wacker Innsbruck in Austria, and that makes my heart soar.”
