Bundesliga in the star check: the seventh matchday

Dream and nightmare starts are coming together this season. But one thing is certain: The Bundesliga is in the right mood – also thanks to the almost full stadiums. The star Bundesliga check on the 7th matchday.
That’s how the game day went
Excitement of the game day
You could also get artificially upset at this point. But why actually? The league is just in a good mood: the stadiums are getting fuller, for a change the Bavarians are not alone in the hallway. So why not just enjoy the moment?
Sure: In the end, Bayern will do it again – despite their first Bundesliga defeat after 30 (!) Home games. Their title win is now more reliable than goal-line technology. Incidentally, the Munich team celebrated the earliest championship in March 2014. As a result, there is still (a little) time until the inevitable becomes clear.
Matchday losers
Well: As humiliating as last week with the 0: 6 swatter against Bayern, it did not end for Hertha this weekend by a long way. However, it would have been an opportunity to make amends. But the residents of the capital did not only appear to be idle, but above all listless.
Sky commentator Toni Tomic summed it up very neatly: “However, you get the feeling that Hertha got into a shootout with knives today.” In the end, Hertha lost 2-1. Only newcomers and bottom of the table Greuther Fürth have a lousy goal difference. Having started the season with great ambitions, they now seem trapped in demotivation.
Match day winner
… are first and foremost the “little ones” – who have achieved great things so far. Both 1. FC Köln and SC Freiburg secured the next three points.
With a twelve-point yield after seven match days, the “Europapokaaal” choirs in the cathedral city have now lost some of their irony. The fact that football in Cologne is not only about biting your fingernails, but also about having fun – a lot of billy goats will have to get used to that. The people of Breisgau, on the other hand, suddenly come into contact with the term “Bayern pursuer”. Of course that’s premature after less than a quarter of the season – but not entirely a lie either.
Another winner should not be suppressed either: the video evidence. Yes, you read that right. In a world in which Effzeh at SC Freiburg is talking about “dream starts”, the video evidence can also be praised. The Cologne basement (this time not to be understood in connection with the club) prevented the hosts from being twice outnumbered in the encounter between VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia from Gladbach. In the end the wolves lost anyway, but at least nobody could complain about the VAR for a change.

You should see this gate (again)
Overhead kicks are the epitome of the dream goal. Anyone who has kicked it themselves – even if only on the Playstation – will confirm that. The overhead kick of the Gladbacher Embolo in the fifth minute in the game against Wolfsburg could hardly have been nicer. In any case, the Swiss made a strong game for his Borussia. Barely two minutes after his Saturday Sunday goal, he prepared the 2-0 for his team-mate Jonas Hofmann. By the way: Embolo’s hit was not the only trick of its kind. Nils Petersen from Freiburg also sank with an overhead kick – albeit not quite as perfectly formed.
