“Really proud”: Combined athlete Lamparter stormed onto the podium in Ramsau

The Tyrolean made a further improvement on Saturday after fourth place the day before and was only beaten by the German Vinzenz Geiger after a strong finish. Lamparter was only five seconds behind him, 1.1 seconds behind him World Cup leader and Saturday winner Jarl Magnus Riiber finished in third place.

“It was a really liberating weekend. I felt a bit better today and I’m really happy about this second place,” Lamparter was overjoyed in the finish area. After jumping, the 21-year-old started the cross-country race in ninth place, led by Geiger, a large group started to catch up with the Norwegian dominator Riiber. This weakened in the demanding cross-country ski run, in the final sprint Lamparter had the faster legs. “I’m really proud that I beat Riiber in the final sprint. That’s a good sign and gives a lot of self-confidence,” said Lamparter after he had been enthusiastically cheered by the fans in Styria.

Men’s head coach Christoph Eugen was also pleased that his protégé’s knot finally burst. “He took the reins and was very active. He runs really well, I’m really happy for him,” said Eugen. He showed an “incredible will” and made the thing “absolutely perfect”. “That’s very cool. I didn’t expect it to work this weekend.”

The ÖSV combined athletes managed to get a place in the winning photo before the Christmas break. With Stefan Rettenegger, who continued his great performances so far this season, in sixth place (+15.4 seconds), the promising youngster made it into the top of the world again. For a long time, Rettenegger was part of the leading group of six, only lacking in the final meters. “I’m very satisfied, not much is missing,” the 20-year-old was relieved. “On another hill, where the distances are larger, it might be a bit easier.”

For Geiger, after jumping to 14th place, it was the first win of the season. Local hero Franz-Josef Rehrl, who was third on Friday after jumping to 30th place, started third again in the 10 km cross-country skiing and this time ended up in 16th place as the third-best ÖSV athlete (+1:22.7 ).
