James Rodriguez moved to Qatar from Everton FC in September. Now Everton coach Rafael Benitez stepped up.
Everton coach Rafael Benitez has sharply criticized former Bayern professional James Rodriguez (30) and denied him any work ethic as a footballer. “James prefers money and a comfortable life. This is more important to him than competition and success in football,” said Benitez at a press conference.
And the Spaniard added: “He never tried in training, but always made demands on a starting eleven. That was unfair to all the other players who gave their maximum in training but were still on the bench.”
James fled from Everton to Qatar
The Colombian James moved from Everton to the Qatari club Al-Rayyan SC in September. James also played for FC Bayern between 2017 and 2019, but the playmaker didn’t really feel at home in Munich. At the time, he asked the club not to withdraw the purchase option agreed with Real Madrid and complained, among other things, about the German weather and mentality.
Above all, his statements about the weather caused amusement in the summer of 2020 when he made his way to England to Everton FC. At the Toffees James was still used regularly under his mentor Carlo Ancelotti, but after the Italian left for Real Madrid this summer he no longer played a role under Ancelotti’s successor Benitez.
