FC Barcelona: Junior Firpo moves to Leeds United

Barcelona continues the sales course: After Jean-Clair Todibo, Junior Firpo is also leaving the club. The full-back is drawn to Leeds.

Premier League club Leeds United have signed left-back Junior Firpo from FC Barcelona. Both clubs announced on Tuesday.

As the Blaugrana published, the traditional English club pays 15 million euros for the 24-year-old. In a future Firpos transfer, Barca will also receive 20 percent of the transfer fee. However, 2.3 million euros of the current income will go to Firpo’s ex-club Betis Sevilla.

Barcelona: Firpo transfer to Leeds part of the new austerity program

Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa in particular is said to have campaigned for Firpo’s quick commitment, as the Spaniard was probably still on the wish lists of several other European first division clubs.

The heavily indebted FC Barcelona is continuing its austerity course with the sale of Firpos: While Sergio Agüero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia have joined the club for free, they are working flat out to give away players they do not need in order to be able to finance a contract extension for Lionel Messi.

Most recently, for example, ex-Schalke Jean-Clair Todibo moved to his loan club OGC Nice. Storm talent Trincao moved to the Premier League for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
