National football player Giulia Gwinn does not want to be put under pressure by the upcoming World Cup on the way to her comeback.
“I’m away from setting a tournament as a fixed goal because in the end it’s not in my power. I haven’t even started running yet,” said the Vice European Champion from FC Bayern Munich to the German Press Agency. After tearing her second cruciate ligament, the 23-year-old is currently in rehabilitation. “I’m planning in small steps. It’s not about coming back as quickly as possible, it’s about coming back in the best possible way.”
The World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand from July 20th. Gwinn was already at the 2019 World Cup in France and was then awarded the “Best Young Player” of the tournament. “If I should be an option again in the summer, I’ll of course be happy. But there are still many big tournaments to come after that,” she said.
The defender tore her second cruciate ligament after 2020 in a training game with the DFB team in October. “In the first moment after the injury you start to do the math in your head and think about whether it could be enough. The European Championship was such a great experience that it’s always a motivation to experience a highlight like this with the national team again.” said Gwinn.
