The Steel Wings opened the game in the 8th minute with Karlis Bucenieks’ goal to make it 1-0, with goalie Leon Sommer even being credited with an assist. Eimantas Noreika increased to 2:0 in the 14th minute, Arturs Brikmanis even to 3:0 (15./pp).
The guests from Fassa were able to keep this result for a long time in the middle section, but the Steel Wings continued to set the tone. So it wasn’t surprising that in the 38th minute Brikmanis was allowed to jubilantly turn away again – 4:0, and the final decision.
In the final third, Linz increased to 6:0 through Fabio Rohm (42nd) and Geoffrey Kitt (44th). The 1: 6 from the point of view of the South Tyroleans (54th) did not detract from the joy of the people of Linz. The Steinbach Steel Wings gave up the Red Lantern to the KAC Future Team with their home win and were able to reduce the gap in the table to penultimate Fassa to four points in a direct duel.
“I really liked the way we played today. The guys were fast and all 4 lines did a good job. The defenders were pressured and tired. We also created a lot of chances with our Forechecking and scored some nice goals as a result. Great work was also done in backchecking and we were able to win a few duels. That’s how a team should play,” said head coach Matej Hocevar.
The next Steel Wings game is on Friday at 8 p.m. with the Sterzing Broncos, who are currently penultimate.
