Accordingly, Flick and the 33-year-old central defender agreed in the conversation that he should only settle in at his new club Olympique Lyon and also devote himself to his private problems. Boateng had been sentenced to a fine of 1.8 million euros for willful assault with insult and has appealed.
DFB team: Boateng’s last international match was three years ago
Boateng made his last international match to date in October 2018 in a 3-0 draw against the Netherlands in the Nations League. He was then sorted out by national coach Joachim Löw together with his former colleagues from FC Bayern Munich Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller.
For the EM, Hummels and Müller returned to the DFB team. Only Müller is nominated for the upcoming international matches against Romania and North Macedonia, Hummels is supposed to devote himself to his knee problems that occurred recently.
Boateng had most recently worked with Flick at FC Bayern Munich for two years. The coach led him back to his old strength, together they won the triple in 2020. In the summer Boateng moved to Lyon on a free transfer, where he became a regular player.
