The Norwegian managed the longest jump in both rounds on Thursday. He prevailed 13.4 points ahead of Poland’s Piotr Zyla and his compatriot and World Cup leader Dawid Kubacki. With Stefan Kraft in fifth place and Daniel Tschofenig in eighth place, two Austrians finished in the top ten.
In front of 25,000 spectators, Kraft attacked in the decisive round with a jump of 138 m. He improved by two places from his seventh half-time position. Only winner Granerud topped Salzburg with 139 m. Michael Hayböck (12th) and Manuel Fettner (13th) ended up in midfield, ahead of Jan Hörl (16th) and Philipp Aschenwald (23rd).
After the first round, Granerud had already led ahead of Zyla and Kubacki with an outstanding jump of 142.5 m. Kraft jumped to seventh place as the best Austrian.
Clemens Leitner was 35th (109.0 m) and was the only ÖSV eagle to miss the second round. “I’m brutally disappointed. I had a lot of jumps in the top ten, it hurts even more than I thought,” said the Tyrolean, who finished eleventh in qualifying. “Paid my apprenticeship, I won’t be too early at the ski jump anymore.” The German Markus Eisenbichler, who came second in the 2018/19 tour, also fell by the wayside as the loser of his duel in difficult, often changing wind conditions.
