Van Dijk says he is using the pain of the loss to Argentina as fuel

The Dutchman said his goal now is to guide the Liverpoolsixth classified, back to the top four places in the Premier Leagueas the title challenge seems unlikely at 15 points from the leader Arsenal.

The quarterfinal match of the World Cup against Argentina he had 16 yellow cards and one expulsion. Van Dijk was involved in an altercation with Leandro Paredes in which he pushed the midfielder to the ground.

Van Dijk said he has had time since then to reflect on the “intense match” and that he is confident of leading the Netherlands to Nations League glory at the end of the season at home.

“(Pushing Paredes) was obviously something I don’t normally do, but it was the spur of the moment and we are all human beings. These things happen,” Van Dijk said.

“It motivates me in any way, because I want to be successful with the Netherlands. I feel we have a fantastic squad and a new era with the return of Ronald Koeman (substitute for coach louis van gaal) and the arrival of young players”.

“Hopefully we can do something nice in the (boreal) summer with the final phase of the Nations League. It’s going to be a good move and it’s something I really want to win, even if it’s at the end of the season when I’m probably absolutely broken.”
