If the medical check goes smoothly, nothing stands in the way of Austria’s team defender Maximilian Wöber moving to the English Premier League. The 24-year-old and his previous employer FC Salzburg agree with Leeds United that the transfer fee should be between 15 and 20 million euros (including bonuses).
The former Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch, who wields the scepter with the “Whites”, has already flushed a lot of money into the Mozartstadt club coffers: In the summer, the American Rasmus Kristensen (13 million) and Brenden Aaronson (32.84 million ).
Leeds are trying to strengthen their vulnerable defense (29 goals conceded in 16 matches) in order to have more staying power in the relegation battle. The club is currently in 14th position, the saving bank is secured by only two points. For Wöber it would be the third foreign post – after Ajax Amsterdam and FC Sevilla.
Austria still without a coach
While Salzburg will probably start preparing tomorrow without Wöber, Vienna’s Austria are already getting started today – but after Manfred Schmid’s dismissal they still haven’t found a new coach. Originally, two ex-LASK trainers are said to have been high on the list of successors: the change of Stephan Helm and Emanuel Pogatetz, trainer duo at second division St. Pölten, is said to have failed because of the transfer. A new name emerged yesterday in the form of Germany’s Michael Wimmer, former coach of German Oberhaus club VfB Stuttgart. The Austria coach is to be presented at a press conference today.
