The man from Salzburg fell on Monday on the second stage at more than 100 km/h and injured his wrist. After that, the KTM rider, who was diagnosed with a broken bone, left open whether he would end the race prematurely. In the morning, Walkner’s Instagram account showed short films of him on the third stage.
The 36-year-old said the day before, “That was probably the most dangerous stage I’ve ever driven on a Dakar. I fell pretty hard into a pile of stones and injured my wrist. Luckily I had the airbag, which probably prevented much worse. All the guardian angels and lucky charms were on my side today”. The third stage on Tuesday leads over 668 kilometers (447 km timed) to Ha’il.
