Messi back in Paris after World Cup title and special leave

This was reported by the Argentine newspaper “La Capital” from Messi’s birthplace Rosario and the French broadcaster RMC Sport on Tuesday. The 35-year-old is expected to start training at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

After the triumph at the World Cup in Qatar with the rousing final and the success of the Argentines in a penalty shoot-out against France for PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappé and the lavish reception in Buenos Aires, Messi traveled to his family in Rosario. The superstar had received special leave from his club trainer Christophe Galtier.

Galtier is not worried that he might have to step in as an intermediary between the South American and his fellow striker Mbappé on Messi’s return. Galtier emphasized that the fact that the French World Cup top scorer was mocked by Argentina keeper Emiliano Martínez at the celebrations had nothing to do with Messi.

Argentina is world champion – and Lionel Messi is unattainable

In terms of sport, PSG can really use Messi. The start after the World Cup break went rather wrong. After a flattering 2-1 at home against relegation contenders Racing Strasbourg, the Parisians lost the top game 3-1 to pursuers RC Lens without Messi and without the suspended Brazilian Neymar. ÖFB team player Kevin Danso and the back team of the northern French had Mbappe and Co. well under control and are only four points behind in second place.

It is still open whether Messi will be able to play away against the third division club LB Chateauroux in the French Cup next Friday. It can at least be doubted. PSG will meet Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 in February and March.
