A “desirable solution” for Wiener Austria

A “desirable solution” for Wiener Austria

The German Michael Wimmer is the new coach of Bundesliga soccer club Austria Vienna. The 42-year-old, who signed a contract until the summer of 2025, is to implement the playful adaptations aimed at by the club’s management. The old coach Manfred Schmid was no longer believed to be capable of this and parted ways with him at the beginning of December – accompanied by heavy criticism.

At the professional level, Wimmer was only an interim head coach on the sidelines of relegation candidate VfB Stuttgart last autumn, Austria sports director Manuel Ortlechner still described him as the “desired solution”. “I want to take away every fan’s fear a bit. We want to continue to find technically cultivated football and our own identity – not copy Salzburg or LASK,” said the Innviertler. Wimmer’s goal is the top six for the time being. “Then we can redefine the goals. It’s also my aim to play internationally,” he said.

The transfer of ÖFB team player Maximilian Wöber from Meister Salzburg to the English Premier League to Leeds United is official. The 24-year-old defender has signed a contract until 2027. The transfer fee, including bonus payments, should now be in the region of 20 million euros. “Max is now going to the best league in the world as a true Salzburg native. We wish him all the best, good health and success,” said Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund.
