Two top games within 48 hours for the Gmundner Swans

With a time difference of exactly 48 hours, two top games of the basketball super league will be kicked off in the Raiffeisen Sportpark Gmunden: Tomorrow at 5.30 p.m. the match of the OCS Swans against the Kapfenberg Bulls will start and on Sunday at the same time the duel of the swans with the Oberwart Gunners. Gmunden remained unbeaten in eight games in a row in all competitions (BSL and Europe Cup) and is going into the double pack with the appropriate self-confidence.

Kapfenberg had an unusually bad start to the season, but is now on the up again, says Swans CFO Harald Stelzer: “They are certainly no longer comparable to the team they were at the beginning of the season in October. After the defeats at the beginning, they have reacted, heavily upgraded and committed three legionnaires in the last four weeks.” As a result, the Bulls are different because they are better positioned. “But so do we,” says Stelzer. “And at home we don’t want to give up a meter anyway.”

On Sunday, third in BSL against second-placed Oberwarter, the Swans will be looking to stay close to leaders Vienna, who were beaten at home by Burgenland in the last round. “We were the only ones who managed to win against Vienna this year,” says Stelzer, who is already looking to the future: “If we win both games, we can flirt with leading the table, especially since we’ve played a match less than Vienna and Oberwart. And the leader after the regular round has home advantage in the playoffs until the final.”

Swans and Gunners will meet again in the semifinals of the Cup Final 4 tournament on Saturday of the next week – but in Oberwart. Seen in this way, Sunday’s championship game in Gmunden is a kind of dress rehearsal for the cup.
